This breakthrough paper on one of the key ingredients in Ola Loa, Betaine, exploring its impact on preventing heart attacks was published in the African Journal of Biochemistry Research. The research concludes that betaine is shown to prevent heart attacks and damage after injection of the toxic drug isoprenaline. The research concludes that "...the overall cardioprotective effect of betaine was probably related to its ability to strengthen the myocardial membrane by its membrane stabilizing action or to a counteraction of free radicals by its antioxidant property."
